| finished another painting tonight. it wasnt coming out the way it was supposed to (story of my life) so i had to alter it midway. now it looks like the first painting only in a different color so i'll take this as a sign that i'm to create a series of these. i'll post them soon in the "protected" entry.

| none of the painting courses i planned on taking next quarter are being offered at night anymore. there goes that grand scheme. on the bright side, there's youtube! i watched some videos to give me some inspiration & tips. last night, i completed a painting and *gasp* i actually sorta like it. :D i actually copied the idea from a painting i saw online so i therefore can't claim originality.. but people have to start somewhere and i have many ideas to implement and make it my own... maybe i'll post it up someday.

| So, I've already discussed this with my sisters but I'm reposting this just so it'll stay clear in my memory 2 years down the line. (I'm hoping 2 years is enough time for me to change my current condition...)
But I think I’m having a mid-life crisis. I’m not really happy with my current job right now. The morale here is really low and the boss has been pissing me off. I’ve recently been toying with the idea of going back to school to take up some painting courses. Maybe I just need a distraction from work. I think taking some night classes at LACC might help though. Who knows, if this isn’t just a passing fancy, I’ll quit this place in 2 years and find an artsy job! (2 years because I need to stay for at least 5 to keep my 401K. har har har!) My coworker’s daughter is interning at a gallery doing restoration stuff. That sounds so unbelievably awesome to me. I feel like I’m getting so old now and if I don’t start doing something, then there’s definitely not going to be a chance for me later, yah know? Who’s gonna wanna hire a 30-something year old person who’s been outta the art scene for 5+ years when they can hire a younger, fresher person straight outta college? Then again, it's never too late to start over, right? I still have 30+ years until retirement, why settle for something that's obviously not making me happy anymore? At the same time, it's really scary to begin anew. My art skills have rusted over and even when I practiced regularly, I would never have called myself a natural talent. Far from it. But I liked to paint and do ceramics so I'll begin with one of those.. What irks me now is the thought that I've wasted so many years. Coming out of college, I thought to myself, "To hell with my art degree. That won't pay the bills." And I quickly looked for admin. positions that would. Only it took a couple years to finally find one that paid a good wage. I've been at my current job for 3+ years now and I'm scared that this is the end of the line for me. Sure, I could work my way up if I wanted, but I don't want to. Not here anyways. I look at my coworkers and they all hate their job. The only thing keeping them here is the money or the friendships made. Shit, if I knew it would have taken this long to find a good job, then I might as well have spent it looking for an artsy one. Then again, who's to say I'll like art once it becomes a job and no longer a hobby? Eh, only one way to find out.. especially since it's not even a hobby at this point. I haven't touched a pencil, clay or brush in years. 
My painting course begins in January. (Actually, I still need to register for it! hah!) If I'm still interested in pursuing a career in art after the semester, then I'll know that this isn't just another one of my phases. (I have many.) With the economy in the crapper right now, I don't know if I'd even have a chance of getting my foot in the door of any museum or gallery. Maybe in 2 years, things will be easier?? ::prays:: I really don't even know how to start looking, but I guess I'll take that one day at a time.
So yah.. mid-life crisis maybe. | | |

since the last time i wrote an entry:
got my raise! (about freakin time)
went to the philippines! (called chubby's dad a dog and impressed his wife by doing so. kudos to me!)
moved to a new apmt! (no more roaches, thank you, lawd!)
learned to knit! (but it made my hands look freakishly bony so i quit. lol.)
dealt with a sexually harassing manager. (not sure who won that one since i reported it to HR but he's still not fired.)
reinforced my friendships and increased my social life!
chubby and i are still doing great together. like all couples, we have our moments of burning frustration, but for the most part, he makes me really happy and i hope i make him, too! how could i not, though? i'm quite the awesome girlfriend. hohoho! the economy has gone down the pie-hole but fortunately for me, that means the workload increases and i get paid overtime. :) since moving out to a new place, it really feels like i've become more independent. ok, i'm lying. but cinpii used to live right upstairs from me and now she's like 8 blocks away. i no longer have that security blanket feeling. i wish we had taken more opportunities to hang out. now she and her hubby are looking to buy a condo and move even further away (you know, more than the current 8 blocks as mentioned previously). makes me sad!! things are changing, for better or for worse, and i'm not sure if i like it. well, as long as she doesnt live too far away (as in, i need to hop on a fwy to see her) then i'll be cool. she IS my shopping buddy, afterall. this makes me think of monk and how i no longer live with her (havent for 3 yrs now). it was a little shitty to see her move so far away.. i mean, seriously, there are PLENTY of apmts in our area that she could have moved to. i wish she'd move back closer. i think we took for granted that we lived together or lived near each other that we didnt make the most of it. now i'm regretting it. i just want my sisters to live near me! is that too much to ask?!!
